Dr. Alexandra Martynova-Van Kley (email) is an Associate Professor in Biotechnology. She came to SFASU in 2002 following a long career as a research scientist for the Russian Academy of Science in Ufa, Russia were she obtained considerable laboratory experience and authored a number of peer-reviewed publications at the academy. Russian system of higher education has a long tradition of involving students in research at the undergraduate level. Each student must spend his or her final year conducting research and writing a “diploma” prior to graduating from the university with a degree equivalent to the bachelor’s degree in the United States. Dr. Van Kley has had extensive experience supervising and working with such students assigned to her laboratory to work as interns as they completed their diplomas. Several of her projects involving undergraduate interns resulted in publications in conference proceedings.
